MVMS Athletic Director Melissa Palmer is the person who makes it all happen, like the play-maker in basketball. She's been at MVMS for eight years, seen people come and go, grow in skills in large strides and see the kids develop more love for the sports that they play.
Ms. Palmer grew up in New York State and then moved to California sixteen years ago. She always liked health and fitness.
"I was doing personal training and I love young people, so I went back to school to get my teaching credential," she said. Ms. Palmer has been the coach of the eighth-grade boys team for three years. She also played sports when she was in seventh grade through college.
"I played sports in middle school, high school, and college. I played softball, basketball, and field hockey," says Ms. Palmer. "In college I played field hockey and basketball.”
“I considered myself good. Very fortunate," she added.
Ms. Palmer said this year’s teams were very good in all areas of sports. "Cross-country and basketball was exceptional. We always have strong coaches. Couple first and second place people county-wide and in basketball, five out of six teams in the county finals." Overall, Ms. Palmer thinks the sports program continues to grow with more interest from the kids. She said there is a lot of parent support and great, young athletes at the school.
