History
Iodine was discovered by a man named Bernard Cortois in 1811. It was discovered when Bernard added sulfuric acid to kelp and purple vapor appeared and it was then named iodine because iodine is the Greek word for purple. After it turned to purple vapor it stuck to metals in the room and formed solid iodine
Uses and appearance
Iodine is used for many things. Iodine is used in salt and when salt is extracted from the sea iodine is in a lot of the salt. Iodine is found in the thyroid gland in the throat and it is there because it gets rid of bacteria in the thyroid gland, that s why they put iodine in table salt so that the throat can get enough to get rid of bacteria. When there isn’t enough iodine in the human body it can stunt growth of the human body so we must have a lot of iodine. Iodine can combined with silver and form an element that attracts moisture so it is used to make rain.

 

Where found on earth
Iodine is found in many places on earth as I said iodine is found in people in their throats. Iodine is found mostly in the sea in seaweed and in the salt of the sea. Iodine does not occur much in the earths crust its abundance is .3 parts per million.
