Barium, a brief history
Barium was first discovered and isolated from the molecule that it is usually found in by sir Humphry Davy, and english scientist. Barium was first found in the 17th century, but at first was not taken as a new element. Because of how closely Barium resembles the mineral Spar, it was not realized until a little later that it was indeed something completely new, and not the Spar that everyone thought it was. And the fact that when first mined and unrefined Barium is found as the polyatomic ion Barite, it made the discovery of Barium harder to make for Sir Davy to find, and then isolate.
The properties of Barium

Barium was first found and isolated by sir Humphry Davy. Barium is never found by itself in the wild, because it bonds with the oxygen in the air around it. When Barium is mined it is almost always found as barite, or barium sulfate. The reason that Barium is never found in by itself in the wild is because of how it has a positive charge of two, like all the other Alkali earth metals. It has a larger nucleus than most of the other alkali-earth metals, so therefore it is good at bonding with other atoms, and can in some cases be a part of a replacement in a bond, vastly because of the size of its nucleus and the amount of electrons.

The uses of Barium

The element Barium has many practical uses in our common and daily lives. It is used as a weighting agent when drilling for oil. The reason this is, is because of how when added to the oil to prevent spurts coming up and wasting precious oil, the Barium then makes the oil thick so it doesn't come up and spurt out. Ninety percent of the Barite, or unrefined Barium, is used by the petroleum industry for being a weighting asset during drilling. Barium is also often used in vacuum tubes as an oxygen removing agent, it can be used as a spark-plug, when made into an alloy with nickel that is. Barium compounds also have many different uses, these include, paint, bricks, tiles, glass, and rubber. Barium nitrate and clorate are also used to make the green colour in fireworks.

The different places Barium is found, and the amount in the earths crust, and other random facts
The USA China Morocco
Texas Louisiana Nevada
percentage found in the earths crust .05% of the earth's crust .00% of space
Other Alkali- earth metals Magnesium Calcium
Beryllium Strontium Radium

My site should be linked to sulfur for Barium is found with this element 16bathgate

Glossary

Barite- The compound of Barium and Sufur that is found, then refind into pure Barium

Bewildered- confused

Alakli- earth metal- Group 2 in the periodic table, each one of these has two valence electrons, and is very reactive.

Valence electrons- The outermost electrons in an atom, also the eclectrons that mostly control the reactivity of an atom.

Covalent bond- A bond in which electrons are shared between two elements.

Ionic bond- A chemical bond in which the electrons are taken or given to one electron, creating Ions.
